I’m starting to get really worried about my car and I’m hoping someone here can tell me if this is something serious or just a normal noise that I’ve never noticed before. I drive a 2015 Kia Sportage that has about 95,000 kilometers on it, and overall it’s been a very reliable car for me. But about two weeks ago, I started noticing this faint ticking or tapping sound that seems to come from the engine area. The strange thing is that the ticking gets faster when I press the gas pedal and slower when I let off. At first I thought maybe I just needed an oil change because I was a bit overdue, so I took it to a quick lube place and got fresh oil and a new filter. The noise got a little quieter but it’s still there. I asked the guy at the lube shop and he said it might be the hydraulic lifters or maybe the fuel injectors firing, but he didn’t sound very confident. Now I’m worried it could be something worse like a rod knock or a problem with the timing chain. I don’t know much about engines so I can’t tell the difference between a normal injector tick and a dangerous knock. I live in Abu Dhabi and I’ve been trying to find a shop that knows Kias well because I don’t want to take it to a general garage that might misdiagnose the problem. But before I do that, I wanted to ask here if any other Kia owners have experienced this ticking noise. Is this a common thing with these engines? I really don’t want to ignore something that could lead to a blown engine, but I also don’t want to spend a lot of money on a mechanic if this is just a normal sound. Any advice would really help me sleep better at night.
