Hey everyone, I recently installed a Power Sonic PS-12180F2 rechargeable sealed lead acid battery in my fire alarm panel, but I’m having some trouble with it. The battery doesn’t seem to be holding a charge, and the panel keeps reporting a low battery condition. What could be causing this issue?

Thanks for reaching out with your concern. It sounds like there could be a few potential issues causing the battery not to hold its charge properly. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

Check Connections: Ensure that all connections between the battery and the fire alarm panel are secure and free from corrosion. Loose or corroded connections can prevent the battery from charging properly or maintaining a charge.

Voltage Test: Use a multimeter to test the voltage output of the battery. A fully charged 12V battery should read around 13.2-13.8 volts. If the voltage is significantly lower, it could indicate a problem with the battery itself.

Battery Age: Consider the age of the battery. Rechargeable sealed lead acid batteries have a limited lifespan, typically around 3-5 years. If the battery is older than this, it may no longer hold a charge effectively and will need to be replaced.

Charger Functionality: Verify that the battery charger or charging circuit in the fire alarm panel is functioning correctly. A faulty charger can prevent the battery from charging properly.

Environmental Conditions: Ensure that the battery is installed in a suitable environment. Extreme temperatures can affect the performance of lead acid batteries, so make sure the battery is not exposed to excessive heat or cold.

If you’ve tried these troubleshooting steps and are still experiencing issues, it may be necessary to replace the battery with a new one. Let me know if you have any further questions or if there’s anything else I can assist you with.
